globalmedia
Does anyone know why my backups could be running so slow. We have about 130 GB backing up every week from a Windows Server onto a HP Tape Deck in-house. We have Retrospect 6.5. It seems to complete about a GB an hour so it takes almost a week to run the full backup. Is this normal? If not, what are some suggestions for speeding up the process? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks
Mayoff
What type of HP tape drive? How is it connected to the computer? Is this a local backup or a backup over the network? Does the backup of other computers run faster?
globalmedia
The HP tape drive is an Ultrium 460. It is connected by a SCSI cable. It is a backup over the network. No, the backup of other computers does not run faster. The backup is backing up three servers all connected through a network in-house. The central server is the one connected to the tape drive by the SCSI cable.
nekr0phage
Hi, What SCSI card are you using and what ID is the drive on? Are there any other devices on the chain? Run a test backup to a disk backup set - what kind of speeds do you get?
Mayoff
With my LTO 2 drive I typically get about 500 MB/Min over the network. Locally I have seen 1500 MB/Min and higher during burst speeds. You may want to download a 7.5 trial and see if the speeds are better. We have made changes to the buffer sizes, etc over the years.
