How to delete files from the DAT type

This is probably THE disadvantage of tape drives. I sometimes have the same problem and I start a two step procedure:

Step 1: Copy the original backupset to another ( using Retrospect ) skipping the files you don't want anymore. With suffienct harddisk space you may go for a file holding the data.

Step 2: Copy the temporary backupset back to tape with recycle-option.

If you are lucky you can do this in one step with two tape drives. However in this case the target storageset will need a new name. With one tape drive significantly slower than the other you may experience a sleepless night while the tapes are repositioning.
