Fulco
System: Windows 2000 SP3; Retrospect 6.5.319; Single Server; Terminal Server installed When Retrospect finishes a scheduled backup, and it tries to quit, it hangs. The only way to restart Retrospect, is to kill the hanging application. Then an ‘Execution terminated unexpectedly’ Event is written to the Event log. But the main problem is, that no information is written to the History in the Activity Monitor, and the Exchange and Mailbox snapshots are NOT written to the Backup Set. So the History (Act. Mon.) is useless, and the Restore Mailboxes doesn’t show any Mailbox/Snapshots. The Restore>Find Files shows them alright. Help please. Mayoff
Can you manually quit Retrospect successfully? If you tell Retrospect not to quit when done, does the log indicate that the correct backups completed? Go to the Windows menu>Log Other then the missing entries in the activity monitor, what is your indication that the SQL and Exchange backup has failed? When a crash happens, the log may not get written to disk and could be incomplete.
Fulco
Manually starting Retrospect, then running a Script, and Quitting after it finishes seems all right,. The Windows Menu > Log indicates that the Backup has completed. Also the backup of Exchange looks all right with exception of the Mailbox snapshots (see original mail). Mayoff
Can you include a copy of the operations log in a forum post? I think it would be helpful to see the entries related to mailbox backups.
Fulco
I am aware that most errors are "open file" errors. By the way: Installing "Open File" module and I get a blue screen error. Removing roff.sys, and the system starts all right. Mayoff
This section of the log obviously does not tell us very much. At this point, I would suggest calling tech support on Monday and opening a support incident so that the problem and solution are better understood. Sometimes complex problems like this are not easily solved in the forum.
Fulco
After contacting tech-support, we concluded that the Retrospect Preference file is damaged. Before I updated Retrospect from 6.0 to 6.5 everything did function alright. So my conclusion is that the update damaged the Preference file. Fulco
System: Windows 2000 SP4; Retrospect 6.5.319; Single Server; Terminal Server installed I did create a new Preference file. The first few day the backups went OK. Retrospect did Quit after the backup. BUT: now the issue is back. The Preference File is damaged again. Retrospect hangs, when trying to Quit.
