tkosel
I use Retropect Single server in a fairly small network environment. One server, 7 clients. On Wednesday, I do a recycle backup of all machines on the network. Every other night, I backup only the files that have changed. Normally, I get very few errors. See portion of Log Below. ================================================= - 02/14/2010 9:00:00 PM: Copying Local Disk (C:) File "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.db": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) File "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.log": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) File "C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) File "C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\UsrClass.dat.LOG": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) File "C:\WINDOWS\Temp\asat0000.tmp": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) File "C:\WINDOWS\Temp\hsperfdata_SYSTEM\2304": can't read, error -1020 (sharing violation) 02/14/2010 9:13:41 PM: Snapshot stored, 68.1 MB 02/14/2010 9:14:16 PM: 4 execution errors Remaining: 6 files, 11.4 GB Completed: 811 files, 3.0 GB Performance: 312.5 MB/minute Duration: 00:14:16 (00:04:43 idle/loading/preparing) ================================================ However, once in a while, I get a TON of errors. I don't know what causes this. I have included a portion of the log below, but in reality there are like 476 errors. ==================================== File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Tri409\liveupdt.grd": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Tri409\liveupdt.sig": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Tri409\sesm20content20catalog_11.0_symalllanguages_livetri.zip": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Tri525\liveupdt.grd": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Tri525\liveupdt.sig": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Tri525\sesm20virus20definitions20win3220v1120v2_microdefsb.curdefs_symalllanguages_livetri.zip": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Tri526\liveupdt.grd": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) File "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads\Tri526\liveupdt.sig": can't read, error -1101 (file/directory not found) . . . The majority of the errors seem to be related to Symantec stuff, either Live update or endpoint protection. Can anyone wise me up? Thanks. Mayoff
Do you have the open file backup add-on? The symantec data looks like files being deleted during the backup process.
tkosel
Thanks for your quick response. No, I do not have the open file backup option. Do I need to worry about this? Should I try to find out from Symantec why these files would be being deleted?
Lennart_T
It seems as Symantec's LiveUpdate is running when the backup is running. Can you schedule them at different times? But I shouldn't worry. After a disaster, you can just re-install Symantec's software.
