Julia
We've had to make the switch from Eudora to Outlook for the Windows XP machines we backup. We do use Exchange mode for Outlook, so most of the users' mail would be able to be recovered via the University's Exchange server. But for those who have exceeded the small mail limit and started to use local .pst archives to store mail .... Will Retrospect 6.1 for the Mac back up those .pst's if Outlook is running when the backup occurs? I need to know if I should notify our Windows users to quit Outlook when they get the backup notice. Thanks in advance!
Lennart_T
There is NO way of backing up Outlook files while Outlook is running. (Outlook doesn't allow any access to the files.) So, yes, you should tell the users to exit Outlook when they get the backup notice.
Mayoff
If you have the open file backup ad on that is part of Retrospect 8, you can backup outlook while it is open without any trouble.
Lennart_T
Interesting. Can Retrospect 7.6 for Windows do the same? By just turning on the "Open File" backup option? (Yes, we have it and use on our server, but not on the clients.)

(Yes, we have it and use on our server, but not on the clients.) I'll answer my own question: Yes, it works. "Open File Backup" has improved a lot since we had to turn it off for the clients a year or two ago.
