Guest
I am using Retro Express on a Windows XP computer, it came as a bundle with a Western Digital hard disk. I have backed up everything during the last weeks, and now came the moment when my laptop crashed and I needed my data back from the external disk. So, I restored all files and folders. But for reasons I do not understand and that are not mentioned in the manual most of my files are in a folder that I can not access. Obviously, Retrospect has restored some user access rights that had not been there before, e.g. I did not have any other users than myself on the laptop, and I am not part of a network but work from my home office. Any suggestions?
natew
Hi If this is XP home you need to reboot in safe mode to change the permissions on the restored files. Thanks nate
Guest
natew, thank you for the answer... but as the Dr. Evil of Windows I really have to ask how to do this... what is a "safe mode" in Windows? Is "Safe Mode" not actually the contrary of "Windows"?
nembot
Hi, To boot in save mode, you have to hit the key F5 while the computer is booting. Thanks.
