MacD
Can someone at Dantz tell me if a Linux Client will EVER be available. I have been holding out, but if one will never be developed, I will look for another solution. If you did, you would rule... we'd be able to backup a Mac/Windows/Linux enviornment with one backup system! MacD
Mayoff
Hi, Dantz will release a linux client in the future, but it will not be available with this 5.0 Macintosh release. The development of Retrospect for OS X has been very time consuming and our number one priority. The linux client will be one of our next development projects. MacD
I appreciate the response. I realize you may not want to set any dates... however, could a Linux client be expected for release in 2002? MacD
Guest
I don't suppose a FreeBSD version is also in the works, is it? We're currently using Amanda to back up our Unix systems (which works quite well), but I wouldn't mind consolidating our backup solutions.
mean_ogre
Why do you need a Linux client when you already have Samba and Netatalk? The real problem is a Linux Retrospect server.
MacD
Thats like saying that using Appletalk shares is an ideal solution to backing up remote mac systems. Come on, you need the client to do a full and complete restore backup. Yes, you can do a few folders via those options, but its not practical. macd
mean_ogre
My point was: Why try to backup a Linux box (essentially - a server) to a Mac (essentially - a client) when we could so nicely backup Win/Mac machines to a Linux server?
