Using Retro 6.5 Pro with Mac OS X Client on Mac OS X Server

Are there any issues we should be aware of when using the OS X client on our OS X Server? we need to be able to backup our web server and mySQL database, and are using/soon to be using all the open file backup to do so. Our network administrator wants to make sure there are no security holes when we install the OS X client that will be opened (besides the TCP and UDP 497 ports).

Hi

The open file backup feature in Retrospect does not work on OSX or Mac OS clients.

Backing up open files on OSX is not much of a problem because files are generally not locked even when they are in use. Your database may pose a problem if it is really large and active because it may change during the backup.

The safest bet is to configure the database to export itself to a file every day. You can then run the backup of that file.

Thanks

Nate

Hi

Yes, the client is fully compatible with OSX server.

You need to open Port 497 for UDP and TCP. Thats all you will need. You can probably leave UDP closed if you choose to connect by direct IP address.

Thanks

Nate
