DJM1972
I just bought a Plextor PX 712 and it came bundled with Dantz Retrospect: Professional Limted Time Licence version 6.5.319 1989-2003 I just installed it so I have a month left but I keep getting this error: Device Trouble "mybackup" error-100 (device rejected command) I'm running xp I have a amd 2800 gig a memory The media that I used was erased not formatted would that make a difference? It shouldn't the software itself is supposed to format the media. I'm not sure any ideas?
AmyJ
Try a different brand of media. Often times, optical drives can be picky in regard to media. Check the Plextor site (www.plextor.com) for their media compatibility list.
DJM1972
Well you might be right I bought 5 dvd-rw's down at Staple a week ago. I check the Plextor web site and they didn't even show up. So I guess I'll try what you said. I'll head down tomorrow and pick up some more name brandish kinds. The funny thing is I've already been able to burn to them. Just not using Retrospect Thanks
DJM1972
Ok I went and bought some maxell put them in and I couldn't get them to work at first. But after a little messen around I figure out that you have to click on choices and put a dot in the 2nd circle. I sucessfully made a backup and made a boot cd. But now I can't get the boot cd to work:-( Oh yeah I didn't have any CD-R's so I used a CD-RW to make the boot cd. Would that be why? It shouldn't be maybe I don't know.. I know how to set BIOS up to boot from cd thats not the problem. I printed out the instructions and this is what it said- If you still cannot get your computer to boot from the Disaster Recovery CD, you will not be able to restore your computer using these instructions. Refer to the "Restoring an Entire Windows Computer" section in Chapter 7 of the Retrospect User's Guide for an alternate (manual) procedure. Does anyone know where I can find the Retrospect User's Guide? I feel dumb for asking but I look in the Contents in Dantz and the readme I couldn't find it. I tried a search at the Dantz web site. not sure any help?
natew
Hi The CDRW is likely the reason why. Simply dragging the iso file to a disk wont work. You need to "create CD from CD image". Your burning program will have directions on how to do this. Thanks Nate
DJM1972
I went and bought some cd-r's and I figure out how to use roxio to burn an iso. How do I test my backup? Plus I'm getting all kinds of errors Help! Can't use Open File Backup option for DSK1_VOL1 (C:), error -3043 (the maximum number of Snapshots has been reached) Is this because I have a trial version? I've been working at this for a week and I am still no-where.
natew
Hi The best way to test your backup is to do a test restore of some files. Click on the restore button and choose the "retrieve files and folders" option. You can test boot off the recovery CD at any time. However it is important that you verify that it boots and then shut the machine down. If you start answering the questions on the screen it will do a full system restore. The errors sound like your catalog file may be damaged. Try doing a catalog rebuild from the tools menu. Thanks Nate
