ginobeltran
Our crack outsourced IT deprtment has asked us mac users to use a WINDWS based NAS server to as an offsite backup source. We currently use SONY DLT tapes for our daily back ups, but wanted to also have a digital back up offsite. I figured out how to map the volume and use it in a script, but after two GB of backup I get an error 102 communication error. I ran the same script to an external fire wire drive without any issues. anybody else run into this same issue?? HELP!!!
natew
Hi This is a known limitation in Macintosh networking. You can't access any files over 2GB on a Macintosh network. Once the backup file gets larger that 2GB it will be unusable. The only alternative would be to enable FTP on the windows NAS and use an internet backup set in Retrospect. DigitalRandy
Nate, Do you know of a way to backup from a NAS device (source) to a tape drive via FTP protocol with Retrospect? Thanks in advance!! Randy
natew
Hi I don't understand... If the source data is on a NAS you should be able to access it via regular file sharing and back it up to tape. No need to mess with FTP. The only time you would have problems is if you have a single _file_ (not folder) over 2 GB in size on the NAS. Thanks Nate
