johnxsmith
I am considering switching from an NS-20 tape drive to a DLT tape drive and then selling the NS-20 drive. Is there a way that I can copy my existing NS-20 tapes to DLT tapes? If so, it is possible to copy several NS-20 tapes to a single DLT tape? Mayoff
Yes, you can copy the data. Both drives much be attached to the computer at the same time: Tools>Copy>Transfer You can read about Backup Set Transfer in the Retrospect User's Guide also. johnxsmith
OK. That looks promising. Let's say that my input backup set has been written and updated several times over a period of several weeks so that the changed files on my hard drive have been backed up many times. Will all of those file versions be transferred to the output backup set, thereby making the output backup set exactly equivalent to the input backup set? Mayoff
If you are using the Windows version, then the destination set can be identical to the source set. If you are using the Macintosh version, then you will only retain the most recent Snapshot for each volume. That snapshot will be stored in the new catalog file, not on the media. All individual files can be copied on Mac and WIndows.
