Gen_bunty
Hi there, I am interested in seriously upgrading our backup server. I want to upgrade to Retrospect 6 server and would be looking to run this on either a dual G5 or a 1GHz G4 with a firewire AIT-2 drive and a firewire HD. I have just been given an spare Dell Xeon powered raid server that I intend to run Gentoo linux on and will use this machine as a Samba file server for our Mac OS X workstations. Is there a Gentoo client for Retrospect that will allow me to backup the Samba shares ? Thanks James
natew
Hi The only officially supported Linux distribution is the now EOL RedHat. However there are many users who have had success installing clients on other distributions. No guarantees but it is worth a shot. Gen_bunty
Thanks Nate, Where can I get the generic Linux client ? As an alternative, can I not just mount the Gentoo server as a Samba share on the OS X server and get retrospect to backup the share ? natew
Hi There is no "generic" linux client. You can install the RedHat client from a tarball or there is an unsupported debian client available in the Windows section of the forum in the linux clients heading.
