Retrospect 5.0 can not find a "connected and powered on" SCSI tape drive under OS X when I boot the OS with the drive powered OFF. Retrospect only identifies the SCSI tape when the tape drive is powered on during OS boot. The Rescan function in Retrospect doesn't help.

This used to work with earlier versions of Retrospect and the Mac OS. Any ideas - so we don't have to always boot with the tape drive powered on?

The hardware is a Lombard Powerbook and an HP SCSI DAT drive.

SCSI safety says that you should always have your SCSI devices powered on before you start your computer up, and you should not turn them off until you have shut your computer down. You risk damage to the SCSI chain if you don't.

SCSI under OS X is less forgiving, and I suspect will be less likely to let you bend SCSI rules, so you will want to have all devices powered on before you start your computer.
