Compression and Sony LIB-D81

Recommended Posts

A client is using Retrospect 5.x Workgroup together with a Sony LIB-D81 AIT2. Capacity for AIT2 tapes is 50gb native and 130gb maximum with compression. Altough I kow that the maximum capacity will never be reached, his backup sets ask for a new tape while there is something like 52 or 54gb on the first tape of that backup set. I have tried both backup sets with hardware compression and software compression. And the client isn't working with only .zip, .sit, .pdf or .jpg files.

So that kinda gives the impression that compression is not working in either way. Suggestions to solve this tricky problem are more thanwelcome.

Hi

This sounds fairly normal. 130GB is completely impossible in a real world setting. How fast is the backup machine? When you tried using software compression you created a new backup set and disabled hardware compression before you saved it right?

Thanks

Nate
