Snapshots and missing .rdb file

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can help me with these:

1. Is there an option to force Retrospect to

create a snapshot whenever a subvolume is

backed up?

2. My client attempted a subvolume restore from

a HD-file set backup. I was called in to help

after she failed. I then discovered that the

.rdb file that contains the snapshot she wanted restored

is missing. Short of someone actually

going into the external HD and deleting that .rdb

file via windows explorer, is there any way to delete the .rdb file

from within Retrospect without being aware of it?

Setup : Retrospect 6.5 on Windows XP home Edition.

Backing up to a BusLink external USB2 HD

Thanks

Kwab

Hi

Snapshots are created for each subvolume by default. If you are using Retrospect Express you will need to upgrade to Retrospect professional in order to access past snapshots.

If Retrospect ran a backup and compare with no errors on the file then we at least know that the file was present and functional immediately after the backup. Have you tried running disk scandisk on the USB drive to make sure there are no errors on the disk? Has the user tried to use the windows XP system restore utility to restore the USB disk? That could account for missing data.

Thanks

Nate
