bowbros
We use Retrospect 6 for backing up our server to CD. This happens overnight, and each backup set consists of four CD's, and when these are all full we do a recycle. The problem occurs when Retrospect needs a the next CD in the backup set. We come in to work in the morning and the CD tray is open, and the screen is showing that Retrospect needs a new CD. However the machine is very unresponsive (so much so that using the mouse is impossible), and the only way to get it going again is to do a reboot. It appears that Retrospect has some form of memory leak while it waits for a CD. Has anyone else experienced this problem? We are running Windows 98 SE on the server, and have Nero installed. churchtown
You're -SOME- brave running a server at your workplace on W98SE... wow. To be fair, a daily reboot is probably the best thing you CAN do to help that server... wow. I'm a little lost for words... maybe you can tell... wow. best wishes, Robert
bowbros
I don't feel brave - it is normally very stable, and can run for weeks without a reboot if it weren't for the problem with Retrospect. We are only a small company, and Win98 and Office 2000 do everything we require. Upgrading would be expensive, more in time upgrading the applications rather than the cost involved
natew
Hi Make sure to go into properties for the device in device manager and disable the auto insert notification. You may also want to stop Nero from running at startup with the MSconfig utility. Thanks Nate
