Fezzik
Hi, I'm new to Retrospect and these forums. I am using the multi-server version (ver 6.5). I currently am backing up our servers using a tape drive and I have Retrospect erase the tape that is in the drive and then back up to that tape. I do a full back up every night to a different tape. The destination is set to use a backup set called "ABC" If the tape that is put into the drive is not named "ABC" Retrospect cannot see it. I have to manually erase the tape and then give it the name "ABC". Is there a way to set Retrospect to erase any tape in the drive (without user intervention) and then do the backup? We have just switched over to Retrospect and we have a lot of tapes that would have to be erased and renamed manually and I would rather just be able to put in the tape and have Retrospect to all the work. Thanks, Fezzik
Fezzik
Sorry, I just realized this is in the wrong forum. Could an admin please move it to the "Server, SBS and Multi-Server" forum? Thanks, Fezzik
natew
Hi There is a "minimal erase confirmation" setting in the Retrospect prefereces. That should take care of the auto erase for you. Retrospect is not designed to backup to any tape in the drive. It is best to create a group of backup sets and label your tapes accordingly. One set for each day of the week is a good way to go. Fezzik
Thanks Nate, I will create the backup set and lable my tapes. I already had the "minimal erase confirmation" setting turned on but my tapes were not named with the backup set name. I appreciate the info, Fezz
