hurleyp
I have an OnStream DI-30 internal IDE drive, which I'm using with Retrospect Express 5.6.127, driver set 2.8.111. I've been using this configuration under WinXP Pro for several months. Now it appears that I am running out of space on the tapes more quickly than before. When I check the Properties of a tape in the Storage Devices window, it shows the tape formatted for 15GB instead of 30GB. I am presented with the option to Erase the tape (which still leaves me with 15GB), but the Format option is grayed. Is this normal? Why is the Format option unavailable? Can I format the tape outside of Retrospect to get 30GB? Thanks Paul
jteichert
That's because the DI-30 uses 15GB media. It derives it's name from the fact that onstream is betting on getting about a 2:1 compression ratio. It really is only 15GB.
hurleyp
Well, I had a feeling that 30 didn't really mean 30GB, but a 2:1 compression. But any reason why I can only 'erase' the tape and not 'format'? Just wondering. Paul
lv2ski
When you erase with Retrospect, it does format. You normally cannot format media without erasing.
