andylowry
This just isn't making sense to me. I've got two sets of DVD-RAM disks, which I'm using for "Backup Set A" and "Backup Set B." The way I want this to work is: - I do a full normal backup to Set A, and leave the last disk in my drive - I have normal backups scheduled for 2am each day, to get all changes that day written to Set A. - Eventually, I decide to move on to Set B (I don't want to schedule this cuz I want to be around for it, to swap disks etc.) - So I change my script to use Backup Set B instead of A, then do a normal backup to new set of disks. - Again I leave the last disk in the drive, and it's used for nightly incrementals All of this worked just fine. But now I want to switch back to A again. So: - I update my script to go to set A again - I perform a "Recycle backup" and my first disk from set A is reused as I expected. - When it asks for another disk, I put in my second disk from set A, but it doesn't want to use it because it claims it's in use for another backup set. - So I reformat the disk, and it goes ahead and uses it, but it names it with a number higher than my previous highest disk number, rather than #2 as I would expect. Why is a recycle backup not dropping all media previously in use for the backup set rather than just the first disk? Must I manually drop the backup set in order to cycle back and use it again? Am I just going about this all wrong? Thanks for any assistance. -andy
natew
Hi Make sure you have the automatically reuse pre-named media preference enabled. Thanks Nate
