big_kahuna
I have a single server that I segmented into two servers. They are large RAID arrays and I had all our companies client documents on Server A. I then installed a new RAID array and split up my files, A-M on one and N-Z on the other. What my question is, I used a script to backup Server A once a week , when I move the files over (A-M) to the new Server B, and added Server B to the script, it acted like it had already backed these files up. It did backup files on the server, but no ALL of them. Are files agnostic of servers, according to Retrospect? If so this is good news as I won't have to peel through a ton of tapes. Any help would be appreciated. Lee
natew
Hi Yes- Retropsect matches files on the source volume against files already in the backup. If they are identical they are not backed up again. This is true even if the location of the file on disk changes. Retrospect stores directory structure and file locations seprately in the backup snapshot. Nate
