d1960b
Hi all, I can't erase an old DLT tape to re-use it... why...? - Mac G3 B&W, OS 9.2.2, Retro Desktop 5.1, Benchmark DLT110 tape drive, tape 40/80... All backup went fine with a brand new tape. I received some used DLT tape of the same brand. I tried to erase them in order to re-use it. I got "error 211, media is locked" (error code not mentionned in the PDF user manual). The lock/unlock mechanism on the cassette itself is set to unlock...and this happened on all the used tapes.... Anyone have any idea....? thanks a lot...

natew
Hi Depending on the media format, some tapes will need to be bulk erased before Retrosepct can use them. Can you be more specific about the brand, format and type of tapes you have? Thanks Nate
d1960b
Thanks Nate. The brand is Maxell DLT tape IV 40/80. Those tape cartridges was used once on another tape drive unknown to me...the tape drive I use now is Benchmark DLT1 (under Dell Powervault 110T)
natew
Hi I can't find the exact article in the Dantz Knowlegebase but if I recall correctly those tapes are going to need a bulk erase. You might try an erase with NT backup on a windows machine but you may have the same trouble there. Nate
