Peter_Haase
I have some windows machines that always have a couple of gigs worth of .wmf (Windows Meta File) files that are backed up each night. Are these files necessary to backup? While I have always backed up entire users disks I am starting to enable filters to cut down on unnecessary waste of tape. Right now I have a custom filter set to ignore cache and mp3 files. Someone said the .wmf is used by Windows Messenger. Can anyone shed lsome light on .wmf???? Thanks! lv2ski
http://www.ora.com/centers/gff/formats/micmeta/index.htm This explains alot about WMF files. Taken from the site above: Microsoft Windows Metafile Format (WMF) files are used to store both vector and bitmap-format graphical data in memory or in disk files. The vector data stored in WMF files is described as Microsoft Windows Graphics Device Interface (GDI) commands. In the Window environment these commands are interpreted and played back on an output device using the Windows API PlayMetaFile() function. Hope that helps!
