rija
What is th difference Between the autmatic verfiy that occurs when you run an immediate backup(on retrospect 5.0, Mac 0s9) and the verify option under the tool tab? Do I need to run both to be sure my back up is safe?
Mayoff
Compare at the time of the backup matches the files against the original on the hard disk using a byte by byte compare method. The verify in the tools, just looks at the files on the backup to see if they appear to be restoreable. This does not compare them against the items on the hard disk. rija
So then running or not running the verify under tools is just about how sure I want to be about my backup, It is not a step that I have to take to complete my backup? Is this correct?
Mayoff
That is correct. Most people only use tools>verify when troubleshooting a problem.
