ldamario
If one wanted to upgrade to a supported backup device (Retrospect Express 5.0) that would be considerably faster than CD-RW, what would be a good (and not terribly expensive) choice? I tried to find out if firewire hard disks are supported. But I can't make sense of the "supported devices" information. A lot of the terminology is unfamaliar to me. IrenaS
FireWire hard drives are supported; just check with the manufacturer or vendor to be sure that they are supported under Mac OS X. If it works with the OS, it will work with Retrospect. We also have a tuturial on backing up to external hard drives at: http://www.dantz.com/tutorials
ldamario
Hello Irena, Thanks for the tip. So if external firewire hard disks are supported, why don't they show up in the list of supported devices? The supported devices seem to be predominatley CD-RW drives. IrenaS
We don't qualify individual hard drives. We support all hard drives generally, as long as they work with the operating system. We do have this note on our Device Support page: Retrospect Express Backup for Macintosh supports removable media, qualified CD-R/RW, DVD, and hard drives.
