"Execution Incomplete", but no explaination?

upqc

Here's a clip from the log.

The drive containing the backup set seems to have plenty of space (13 gigs free)

What am I missing?

What other information can you provide to help us understand your configuration?

EEDITTEST

- What OS is this?

- How is the drive formatted?

- What verions of the client software?

- Do other volumes have this problem?

upqc - Have you tried other subvolumes?

- What OS is this?

Win2000 Pro

- How is the drive formatted?

NTFS, and I'm backing up to a file.

- What verions of the client software?

?

- Do other volumes have this problem?

Interesingly, the problem occurs on another pc when backing up my main PC.

I also have Retrospect on the main PC doing backups to another file backup set and it does not seem to be having any problems.

Occasionally the client backup fails because I shut down the other box and forgot to log back in - so it can't find the source files...but when that happens it issues an appropriate error message.

The problem in when Retrospect on the other PC tries to back up the main PC.

Ethernet LAN, TCP/IP...

upqc - Have you tried other subvolumes?

I don't know what a "subvolume" is in the context of Retrospect.

Nailing the specific problem would be nice, but what's really bothering me is the "Execution Incomplete" without any supporting error messages. Sounds like I'm not missing anything - that Retrospect really is telling me something didn't get done.... but why?

?

Retrospect Professional comes with two client licenses. Without the client software you cannot properly backup a boot volume across your network. Are you using the Client software? If not, how are you accessing the network machines? Through Win Networking?

Retrospect can only backup one machine at a time. Can you clarify what you mean by this?

Is upqc the name of a volume?

Re/Client liscense and the rest: I think I neglected to make a crucial point.

The point is that Retrospect was running and working on a daily basis before the problem surfaced. Obviously *something* has changed, but I'd swear that I haven' changed anything.

To me, the real issue is why Retrospect just issues that "execution incomplete message" without any qualification. I'd call that a bug of sorts. Somewhere in all that code, there's an untrapped error situation.
