rsmith
With the new Xserve RAIDs starting to ship, what's the official/unofficial line on compatibility with Retrospect? Will we be able to use them out of the box with Retrospect as a storage solution, or is there a known issue(s) that we should be aware of(mainly with Apple's Fiber Channel card)? AmyJ
See the following link for the Dantz compatibility statement with XServe http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27639
rsmith
I know it works with the Xserve, but I'm curious as to the "Xserve RAID", Apple's new 3U RAID box. It requires the use of a Fiber Channel card, which is what I'm mostly worried about. Has Dantz even tested Retrospect against the default hardware setup for an Xserve RAID system(an Xserve with an Apple FC card, and the RAID box itself), or is this uncharted territory? AmyJ
Ahh... sorry. At this time Dantz does not support the Xserve RAID. We hope to support it in the future.
Mayoff
XSERVE RAID At this time Dantz has not tested Xserve RAID with Retrospect, and it is not supported. TLReed
I'm wondering why the RAID isn't supported? Wouldn't the operating system and Retrospect treat the RAID as just another mounted volume. The RAID isn't a tape backup device, it's a hard drive or volume. Are you saying that Retrospect wouldn't be able to back up the mounted RAID disk, or that there are potential issues involved in doing so? Thanks for your help. Mayoff
At this time Dantz has not tested Xserve RAID with Retrospect. Until testing has completed and it has been "qualified" for use with Retrospect, it is not supported.
jbuecker
I'm in the same boat. i would like to use half of an Xserve RAID as a backup . (This would allow for removable drives to be rotated off site). I can't imagine why this would no work. But would like to know for sure. -Jason
Mayoff
Because testing is not complete we can't really tell you what to expect when trying out the configuration. It might work perfectly or it could fail, we just can't answer the question for sure.
