ddbi
I have a 4 computer peer-to-peer network. One desktop is running Win XP Pro. It is the machine that Retrospect 6.0 is running on. Its name is M1600. Another machine is running Win 98SE (upgraded from Win 98). Its name is X300. Another desktop is running Win ME. Its name is D800. An lstly there is a notebook (a Dell Inspiron 8200) running Win XP Pro. Its name is D2000. The problem is in building the snapshot for D2000. For the other three machines a nightly backup takes a few minutes. For D2000 it takes over an hour and the vast majority of that time is spent rebuilding the snapshot. I am backing up to a 120MB hard disk mounted as drive F: on M1600 using a script that I run manually each evening (ocassionally I skip an evening). I have system restore turned off on both Win XP machiens and the Win ME machine. Can anyone shed any light on what is causing this?
Mayoff
Hi, Slow Snapshot building is caused by the backup of NTFS permissions which is off by default for Workstations and turned on by Default for servers. This Knowlegebase record should be helpful Why Does it take so Long to Build a Windows Snapshot?
