Media Failure

Recommended Posts

I have a backup set consisting of 6 tapes. During a restore operation, Retrospect reported a media failure of the 4th tape. Luckily, most of my system information appears to have been restored.

How do I find out what files were not restored as a result of the media failure?

You can setup a restore again.

Make sure the damaged tape is not set as missing. You can do this by going to Configure/Backupsets/and go to properties of the backupset. Make sure all are visible and none are set as missing.

Then Setup the restore again. Go to the Files Chosen button of your Restore that you just setup. The catalog will still have the list of files in it, even though you may not be able to restore from one piece of your media, provided the media isn't set as missing. If you set the media as missing, it removes those files from your catalog. Now see what doesn't have a diamond next to it. Those that DO NOT have a diamond next to it are the files it still needs to restore - that apparently are on the tape that has gone bad.

Hope this helps you.....
