rfeague
I'm trying to do a disaster recovery restore from an external USB hard disk using Windows XP SP3 and Retrospect Express 6.5. After working around problems with the restore not seeing recognizing the external drive after booting the recovery CD, the restore appeared to work and Windows came up. Now I have a Retrospect Helper Service window with three items "Updating Registry" (checked), "Deleting Temporary Folder" (checked), and "Updating Meta Data" (not checked). It hangs forever. I've tried rebooting, but it just comes back up and hangs. Searching the forums suggests this may be related to the fact that I'm restoring from an external volume that's not mounted at the point when the Helper Service is looking for it, but it's not clear. Any suggestions? Many thanks!
Mayoff
Sounds like an old bug. Have you tried the 7.7 trial version? Edited February 16, 2010 by Guest
rfeague
No, I haven't. Can it restore a 6.5 backup set?
Mayoff
Yes, the new version should be able to read your old backups. It is possible a catalog rebuild will be needed but probably not.
