Mayoff
If the backup is on the hard disk, then what is on the CD?
Renee Kelt
the backup set is on the hd. I then back up the files to a dvd each set ie DVD disk backup set A, DVD disk backup set B... I usually back up to dvd disk then trash the files off my mac. But now one cd is scratched
Mayoff
Are you saying that the catalog file is on the hard disk or the backup data itself?
Renee Kelt
the catalog backup set is saved to the HD. The files and data are saved to a physical dvd
Mayoff
If the DVD is damaged then you probably can not get files from it.

rhwalker
Try polishing the CD's scratch with toothpaste. Sometimes it can work well enough to make the CD readable. Russ
