JBracy
I'm getting an error backing up Final Cut Server Data on a SAN volume. The Tape drive is connected to an XServe via SCSI, and the XServe is a Fibre client on the SAN. I'm assuming that the MD5 errors are a result of the files being modified during the backup (though the time stamp on the files show no access for several days). The concerning thing is that the Summary says that only 47GB and 64 files were backed up. This was approximately 2TB of data and the backup used 5 LTO3 400/800GB tapes. The summary also shows Compression off where I told it to use Hardware compression and as a test tried Software compression as well. here is the log file: + Recycle backup using FCS Data at 7/14/2009 3:29 PM (Execution unit 1) To Media Set FCS... 7/14/2009 3:29:30 PM: Recycle backup: The Media Set was reset 7/14/2009 3:29:30 PM: Copying Proxy Media 7/14/2009 3:38:59 PM: Snapshot stored, 3027 KB 7/14/2009 3:39:03 PM: Execution completed successfully Completed: 6704 files, 12.5 GB Performance: 2062.2 MB/minute Duration: 00:09:32 (00:03:21 idle/loading/preparing) 7/14/2009 3:39:03 PM: Copying Production Media 7/14/2009 6:35:15 PM: Verifying Production Media > !Trouble reading: "1-FCS" (396198), error 0 ( unknown) > !Trouble reading: "1-FCS" (396198), error 0 ( unknown) > !Generated MD5 digest for file "/Volumes/CCS_Video/Production Media/Media/Andy Anderson photographing Peter Cheung tk1.mov" does not match stored MD5 digest. JBracy
Does anyone have a reply for this? It also looks like the tapes are not being filled up. I'm assuming that Retrospect is reporting the total possible capacity (800 GB), but if it cannot compress 2:1, then reports free space (ie Tape 1 says 414.4 GB used 366.7 GB free even though it then moved on to fill 7 tapes all with similar stats)
Mayoff
Trouble reading errors sounds like some type of device communication error or dirty tape heads. All of those look like major error reading tape.
