Frank N Berry
Some questions about the energy saving features of 8: - Does 8 do WoL for both Tiger and Leopard clients? - What about Windows XP or Vista clients? Is this planned for a future release? - Can 8 put those systems to sleep or shut them down after their backup is done? Ideally, we would like our Mac OS X Server running 8 to wake (or even startup!) Mac OS X.4, Mac OS X.5, Windows XP and Windows Vista clients to do the backup and when they are done, put them back to Sleep (or maybe we can just set them to go to Sleep after being idle) or even shut them down. I suppose we can download the trial and test it all out, but was wondering if there is any first hand knowledge with regards to these features. Thanks! Mayoff
Wake on LAN will work with 10.4.11, or 10.5.5 or later clients. It is not supported with Windows right now. I am not sure if our plans for the future. Hopefully we can add Windows WOL support. No, Retrospect will not shutdown the client. I assume it will autosleep after the backup.
