HP Ultrium LTO2 - error 203 Hardware Failure

Recommended Posts

Hi,

heres my setup, brand new stuff:

XServe Quad 2.8 GHz, Leopard Server 10.5.5, 4 GB RAM

ATTO UL4D PCI-X SCSI card (Driver 4.3.0)

HP Ultrium 448 SCSI tape device, using new SCSI 1 feet cable

Retrospect 6.1.138, Driver Update 6.1.15.101 installed

So im getting the "203 error - Hardware Failure" randomly. I never finished a backup completely. Sometimes it backups 3 Gb, other times 30 Gb before crashing.

here a log sample from Retro:

- 10/24/2008 3:35:29 PM: Copying img on Boot RAID…

Trouble writing: “1-SEMAINE 1 - JEUDI†(1795162112), error 203 (hardware failure).

Additional error information for device "HP Ultrium Gen 2 DC" [0:3],

Sense > f0 00 04 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 00 44 00 00 00 30 20

(HP |Ultrium 2-SCSI |S63D)

I tried to backup data from FireWire drives, local SATA drive, NAS, but its always showing up.

Could this be a terminator issue? The LTO2 is the only device on the ATTO.

anyone has ideas?

thanks

Phil
