theuberger
Do a hardware-issue we had to migrate our server to a new hardware. We used acronis with universal-restore to do that. All works fine on the new hardware. All users are availlable and the security-rights seems to be Ok. In retrospect our script "disk to disk" works fine. But I don't see the backup-tape in the environment. I open "Media&Devices" on the tab environment I cannot see any entries. I see on the top right only "No devices visible...". On the old hardware I see here "Devices visible using NT Passthrough..." Any idea how to fix this an how to make the devices visible? Mayoff
What type of device are you using? Does the device show in your device manager?
theuberger
We use a sony SDX-1100 scsi-attached. The device is visible in the windows-devicemanager and also on "Removable Storage" in the computer management.
Mayoff
The registry is not reporting the existence of the device to Retrospect. Try to disconnect the device. Restart. Plug in the drive and restart again.
theuberger
No devices are visible in retrospect (not only the sony ait). Where does retrospect read the registry? I think "LM\Hardware\DeviceMap\SCSI\..." correct? If yes, the key is available on the system! what does retrospect need for permissions to read this keys? Mayoff
Do you have any other backup software installed like BackupExec? If so, you need to uninstall it.
theuberger
No, Retrospect is the only backupsoftware installed. I the startthread I described, that we made a clone from the server. Between the restore of the clone we haven't install an other backup software. Mayoff
Are the computers 100% identical? It is possible that the registry is making an assumption that you are on the old computer, and as a result it sees no devices.
theuberger
No, the two servers aren't identical. But I can see all devices in the device-manager and other tools (like sandra) see the devices also. Only retrospect seems not to see any devices and I cannot understand why. Please tell me where Retrospect reads the device-informations. So I can check if the values are available.

Mayoff
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/HARDWARE/DEVICEMAP/Scsi/ there should be 1 or more Scsi Port X and for each port 1 or more Scsi Bus X under which there should be Target Id X for each device. These entries are for the scsi ports so when we scan for devices we query each scsi port for the devices it sees.
theuberger
I can access the registry and for me the values seems to be Ok. But I think retrospect have a problem while reading one of this parameters and displays no devices. Can you check please, if the reading of one of this entries raise an error? Mayoff
If you disconnect the tape drive and restart, does this info change? Does the new computer have the same identical scsi card or a different card? The registry shows SCSI Bus 0. Do you know if this is accurate on the new computer or is SCSI BUS 0 the bus number for the prior computer?
theuberger
If I disconnect the drive the following key is not available after a reboot: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\Scsi\Scsi Port 3\Scsi Bus 0\Target Id 3\Logical Unit Id 0] It's the same scsi-card from the old computer. All entries represent devices from the new computer. No devices from the old computer are visible
Mayoff
The registry doesn't show anything specific. This may be a case when you will probably want to call into tech support. They can gather a detailed debug log for engineering review.
Mayoff
One last thing you could try before calling support. Temporarily removed the Retrospect preferences folder in All users\application data\Retrospect. If the prefs are corrupted then you might see this. theuberger
After a long time I have found the error. The problem was a configuration-tool from the old raid-controller (3Ware Controller). The controller is not available in the new server and also not available in the devicemanager. The controller was not listed in the registry, but it seems, that retrospect had found the controller and raise a silent exception during access. Dear retrospect developers, please check your code. Retrospect was the only tool that had problems with a not available device!
