After reading lots-o-documentation I'm trying to determine what the difference/benefit is in creating a backup (or Archive or Duplicate) script to back up any folder/file versus just dragging that folder/file to my external drive? TIA.

Mike, You missed some critical details:

1) Drag and Drop does not use byte by byte verification on your data

2) Retrospect only duplicates the files that have been added or changed since the last duplicate

3) Duplicate gives you specific control over what happens to the files on the destination.

Robin,

I know the backup option only updates new or changed files and that is the option I currently use. My question is which mode or option is most recommended, Backup, Duplicate or Archive? Is there EMC documentation that details the advantages of all three? Thanks for your help.
