Tommybro Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 I have a Western Digital External USB 250GB Hard Drive, Dual-option Backup 2.0. I am running Windows XP. I used the drive for about 2 years with no problems. All of a sudden the unit will not be recognized. I turn it on and it locks up my PC until I unplug the power to the external HD. I do get a message, "The specified I\O opeation on \Device\Harddisk2\DR6 was not completed before the time-out period expired." I have reinstalled the software drivers from the original CD. I have taken hooked it up to another PC with Vista and I get the same song. Locks it up. I haven't done anything new to my PC in the time I've had the external HD. Help, I have images on there that I need!!
Mayoff Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 Sounds like a disk failure. Contact WD for technical support. lock ups like that are not typically because of a software issue. The USB ports of the drive could be bad or the disk might be having trouble. Amazon.com has an Iomega drive on gold box special today....
