Mayoff
Have you done a catalog rebuild? If not, you need to rebuild it from all backup media in the set.
drife
How does one do that?
Mayoff
It is one of the most heavily documented features, I am surprised you have not seen it. Â It is in the User's Guide, It is in the Help, it is showed in the online videos and it is in the tutorials. Â This is a tutorial: Â http://kb.dantz.com/article.asp?article=8350&p=2 Â

drife
How long does recatalog normally take?
Mayoff
It depends on how much data. Everyone is different.
drife
On the activity monitor under the executing tab the file names have stopped changing and it seems to have stopped on just one file name but the execution is still running....is this normal? drife
This is the error message I am receiving. Â Trouble reading: "1-Backup Set A" (624192), error -102 (trouble communicating) Â
Mayoff
Retrospect either had trouble reading data from the disk, due to a corrupt data file or you are having a device communication error. Â Try a different USB port, change USB cables. Â You will need to start the rebuild over again. Â Under Vista, make sure you have 7.5.387 of Retrospect. Â If the rebuilds always stop at the same point, then you have corruption to the backup.

MRIS
Catalog rebuilds can take a while, I started a rebuild on a 440GB disk based backup set and it's calculated to take about 23 hours... or 300MB/minute
