fgs
I just started getting these errors last night as well. I'm running Multi Server 7.5.508 with Driver Update and Hot Fix 7.5.13.100 on Server 2003 SP2. My Exchange is also 2003 SP2. My first 63 mailboxes backup correctly. The 64th mailbox gives me an error 1216 (user, password, or domain not recognized). The next 4 mailboxes give me an error 523 (service transaction error). The following 11 mailboxes give me the error 3408 (unknown). The last 39 mailboxes backup no problem. The only thing in the event viewer application log is the 1216 error. I also do a separate Exchange storage group backup, which runs no problem. I don't remember ever getting any of these errors previously. Mayoff
If this is a new problem, what has changed about these mailboxes since the last backup? You may want to try an unlicense and relicense exchange within Retrospect. Also make sure you have things configured correctly: http://kb.dantz.com/article.asp?article=9633&p=
fgs
I just started comparing times with other logs of mine and realized that other servers lost connectivity at this same time. Turns out a backbone cable in the server room was swapped out during this time. That would explain the error 1216, followed immediately by the other errors. Once the link came up again, normal mailbox backups resumed as well. Moral of the story is: don't lose network communication by having a lack of human communication.
