Topic Split: Express remains in "Updating status..."

I purchased a Maxtor drive some time ago. It came with version 1.0.196. I am experiencing the same problems. It still appears to be running my scheduled backups, but I cannot access the program. I have re-booted. I have also removed the Retrospect Express and re-installed. I do not have .net 2.0. I have not recently installed new anti-virus software. The only changes would be windows updates (xp) and Antivirus signatures.
