g.bevan
Hi. During a nightly backup, Retrospect 7.5 lost connection with the tape drive. The fault on the drive was easily fixed and the tape is OK, but Retrospect is now asking for a new tape, even though the existing tape is only 25% full. Is there any way of resetting the request for new media in this scenario? Thanks.
Mayoff
You can check the backup set properties to see if this tape is marked as missing in the members tab. You can easily click "found". If the tape is already found, then you may have experienced a media failure while writing to the tape. This results in an end of data marker on the tape, and you can not add any data without erasing the tape first.
g.bevan
Thanks for the reply. I've checked the backup set and it's not listed as missing. If I mark it as such, and erase the tape in question, would the backup continue as normal (without losing the data that was held on the tape? Mayoff
If you erase a member of the backup set, it is basically the same as doing a full recycle on the backup set.
g.bevan
Thanks Robin. I'll give that a try. (and thanks again for the prompt reply). Grahame.
