launaycook
Retrospect Express often has problems when checking for storage devices. It will usually work just after startup, but after another application has run, or even if I run only Retrospect Express, quit it, and run it again, usually either: (1) It doesn't see the CD drive, telling me that there are no storage devices attached, or: (2) It freezes when checking for the drive. In this case I can't force quit Retrospect Express: I have to force the iBook to reboot. I thought of an extension conflict, but the suggestion in the user manual to try booting without extensions is no use: without extensions Retrospect Express won't run. Maybe somebody could tell me which extensions are essential for Retrospect to function? One thing I found out: I have to keep virtual memory turned on. If I turn virtual memory off, Retrospect never sees the CD drive. Here's my setup: Retrospect Express 5.0.238 Driver Update 3.6.106 iBook G3 booting with Mac OS 9.2.2 Combo drive installed in iBook: Sony CRX820E Info in Device Status window (when it works): Version 3.3b, Drive Sony CD-RW (5.01) Thanks for any replies, Michael
natew
Hi Retrospect Extensions are pretty basic and are all named retro something. Just create a base extension set and add Retrospect stuff- you should be fine at that point. Nate
launaycook
Thanks. I made the base extension set and added the retrospect extensions. The problem is still there, so that should rule out extension conflicts. Anybody have another idea?
