TomYung
I'm backing up to a nearby Mac's HD. Retrospect Express says the back up can't be bigger than 2GB I don't get it coz the space available is around 5GB. Is there a limit? I'm new to Retrospect. I want to make it work but it's not entirely intuitive. tomY
AmyJ
Due to Apple file sharing limitations, Retrospect cannot create a file backup set larger then 2 gigabytes on a mounted network volume. You'll need to backup to a local hard drive to get past this limitation.
cdebracy
Why can't the Mac client break up the backup volume set into 614Mb files like 6.5 does for Windows? That would certainly solve a lot of problems. I own Retrospect Backup Express for the Mac and find that I just can't use it and CompUSA certainly won't refund my money. Nowhere on the package does it describe such a limitation for network backups. Given an obvious means to work around it, when might Dantz address this issue? Thank you. natew
Hi The best way to get around this for now is to set up your destination mac as an FTP server. That way you can use an "internet" backup set in Retrospect. It breaks the files in smaller chunks as you mentioned so it is not affected by Apple networking limitations.
