shekala
I am trying to upgrade from 7.5.370 but keep getting the following error: close Retrospect Launcher (process ID:2156) I have exited Retrospect, rebooted, and checked processes for the Launcher (admittedly, I dont even know what it is...), but dont see it anywhere, and yet i am getting the error. Any advice? Also, are both 7.5.370 and 7.5.387 compatible with Vista? Thanks, David
Mayoff
From the Read Me: Upgrading to Retrospect 7.5.387: If you have upgraded to Vista and Retrospect is already installed you will need to uninstall and then reinstall the application before using it. Uninstalling the application will not remove your preferences so you will not need to recreate your scripts.
shekala
Just to be clear and make sure I do this correctly... I did not upgrade to Vista. Rather, my laptop came loaded with it. I then installed Retrospect 7.5, then tried running the 7.5.387 update, which failed. If I understand you correctly, I should now uninstall 7.5, then run the 7.5.387 file to reinstall? Thanks for your help, David
AmyJ
Yes - in Vista you will need to uninstall Retrospect prior to installing the update.
Keith.Pocock
You don't see the process in Vista unless you choose 'Show Processes from all users'. Then you can kill it.
bcronin
Ever since I updated to 7.5.387 the backups I run on my Vista box are failing to complete successfully. I see a raft of -1017 and -1020 errors that I never did before. More omniously, I also see this: MapError: unknown Windows error -2,147,217,405 W2dbWMIDbOp: pWMIRep->BackupREGDB failed, winerr -2147217405, error -1001 Can't back up WMI Repository, error -1001 (unknown Windows OS error) RegGetSystemRegPath: not in windows folder "\device\harddiskvolume1\boot\bcd " Unknown Windows error? Has Retrospect lost its ability to recognize Vista? Sigh ... Any ideas? -- bc

bcronin
It did not help. bcronin
I first installed 7.5.387 on top of my previous installation which was running fine under Vista. Then I started getting a lot of errors I never saw before. So I came here and found this advice. I uninstalled Retrospect and reinstalled it again, but I still get the errors. I can no longer make backups of my Vista (Ultimate 32) PC. Can you help at all? I posted detailed error logs elsewhere in this thread. AmyJ
It sounds like you're having problems with the Volume Shadow Service which would prevent the Retrospect from backing up open files. You should check your Event Logs for VSS errors.
