Seagate 8000NS Travan

Recommended Posts

I've just installed Retrospect Workgroup on one of my servers with a Seagate 8000NS Travan drive and although there is a tape in the drive and Seagate's utilities recognize it (I've done a retension and read/write tests) Retrospect always recognizes the drive as empty when I try to back up. What's my problem here? Is it the tape or the drive?

The only other useful facts I can think of is that the tape in the drive was originally created many months ago by a Veritas Backup Exec program. If this is a problem do I need to erase the tape or just buy a new one?

Thanks in advance,

I've tried to find an erase command, but I've been unable...

Should I try a big magnet or just buy a new tape :P ?

I'm asking because I don't want to go out and buy a new tape and then come back and have it still read empty.
