Guest
I've just installed Retrospect Workgroup on one of my servers with a Seagate 8000NS Travan drive and although there is a tape in the drive and Seagate's utilities recognize it (I've done a retension and read/write tests) Retrospect always recognizes the drive as empty when I try to back up. What's my problem here? Is it the tape or the drive? The only other useful facts I can think of is that the tape in the drive was originally created many months ago by a Veritas Backup Exec program. If this is a problem do I need to erase the tape or just buy a new one? Thanks in advance, John
Mayoff
Because the tape contains non-Retrospect data, you may want to try erasing it outside of Retrospect. Does the Seagate utility contain an erase command? If so, try that prior to the Retrospect use.
Guest
I've tried to find an erase command, but I've been unable... Should I try a big magnet or just buy a new tape ? I'm asking because I don't want to go out and buy a new tape and then come back and have it still read empty. John
AmyJ
If available with your OS, try using NT Backup to erase the tape. Barring that, I would recommend trying a new tape.
Guest
Checked ASPI and installed an update, and it's working great... John
