Cyberdec
I am trying to schedule a nightly backup which will just use any tape I put in there. No rotation no nothing. Just use the tape regardless. Everthing I try ends in misery. (asking for a tape). Does anyone have a solution? BTW I have 6 tapes. Using Retrospect 6.5 With a Sony TAIT2. Mayoff
Quote: Just use the tape regardless. Retrospect does not support inserting any tape that you want. You must insert the most recent tape that corresponds with the backup set in the script. You can "trick" Retrospect by using "automatic skip to blank media" and insert a ERASED tape each time, but that is the closest you will get. You can do a full backup every day to identically named or erase tapes too.
rhwalker
Perhaps some hack like have multiple destinations, one for each tape, all scheduled for the same time/day, with a short media timeout, such that all but the inserted tape get a media timeout? Not pretty. russ
RDavisCA
My request is similar to cyberdec, I have 6 tapes on Retrospect 7.5.9.102. I would appreciate any solution that will allow me to have a daily back up of selected volumes that will write to any tape the client has inserted into the drive. This will cut down on failed back up due to client confusion that happens more often than not. Thanks, Rick
RDavisCA
Hello Cyberdec, Did you ever solve this? Rick
Cyberdec
I have not solved it yet. The all the suggestions do not work. I did think of scheduling an erase job but cannot work out how to do this. Maybe using some other product to erase the tape first. Am still trying.
