mirQtio
Hi all, I am having an issue with my backup failing. I have attached one of the backup logs below so you can see the details, but thie gist is several files are (expectantly) skipped during the backup, then the final selection hangs for a considerable time (between 5-10 hours) then reports that the Execution stopped by operator. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Charlie Irwin [edit] fat fingers... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- + Recycle backup using Tuesday Backup at 10/24/2006 10:00 PM (Execution unit 1) To Backup Set Tuesday Media... 10/24/2006 10:00:03 PM: Recycle backup: The Backup Set was reset - nekr0phage
Hi Charlie, It looks like everything other than 'Extra HD (F:)' is backing up as expected, with a few errors for open files. My question to you is: what is different about the F: volume that it would fail where everything else completes? Do you have any databases hosted, there? Mapped home directories? Whats on that drive? mirQtio
The folder that is not completing on HD:F is a shared folder - which contains only one folder called "graphics". This is the backup for all of our multimedia and graphics files for the company and website. I recall when Varsity first set the server up for us they put this one on it's on drive b/c it was so large. The two largest sub folders are 11.3 GB and 9 GB - the 11.3GB is for website stuff and the 9 GB one is video stuff. There are video files, flash, windows media movie files and mp3's as well. We have always had some on the server, and have steadily created more so slowly increased our space usage. I wonder if Retrospect has an issue with any of the file types? mirQtio
No further help on this issue? No ideas based on the type of data being backed up? Thanks.
nekr0phage
If that directory is shared out to other users there might be some issue with open files taking along time to snap or failing the backup outright. Are there any errors listed in the Windows Event Viewer? Have you ever been able to succesfully backup Shared Folders? Also, what operating system is this? I'm guessing you don't have the open files backup add-on, as you are receiving open file errors on other volumes. Would any files located in those directories be in use at the time of the backup? mirQtio
The OS is Win2k3 Standard SP1. At the time the backup runs, the files would not be in use. I can back up other shared folders without issue. I will look further into the Windows events as soon as I can. Thanks again.
mirQtio
I still seem to be having this problem and I can't seem to find anything in the event logs that would indicate the reason. All I can think of is that it is tied to the type of content on this drive. I have seen reference to issues with large encrypted ZIP files causing issues, I am wondering if the compression on various video, audio and image files could lead to the same thing.
