noborg
Hi, Sorry for the duplicate post (first time); I didn't realize that the subject would be cut off and therefore unclear to readers. So I'm posting again. What are the implications of "match only same location"? I backup several Windows clients, many of which have common (identical) programs installed (e.g., Acrobat, MS Office, etc.). If "match only same location" is unchecked (the default), my understanding is that identical files in different locations will not be backed up more than once. For example, winword.exe will not be backed up from client B if it has already been backed up from Client A (whether or not it has the same location on each client). First, is this understanding correct? Second, if I later need to restore client B, will the common files (e.g., winword.exe) be restored correctly to their location on client B, or do I have to remember that I have such files backed up via Client A and then have to manually restore or re-install? js
Mayoff
If all 3 matching options are selected, then the bottom option will be adding "path" or "location" of the file to the matching criteria. If an identical file exists in 2 locations, this option forces us to copy both of the identical files.
noborg
Thanks, I understand that part. But what happens on restore? js
Mayoff
At the time of a restore, the snapshot will allow Retrospect to restore the drive to exactly what it looked like at the time of a backup. No missing, or extra files.
