CD is write protected

Recently upgraded our server where Retrospect is resident and just physically moved the previous hard-drive over (so no need to restore). When I go to recycle the CDs used for backup (on old machine), the system tells me that the CDs are write protected. They can be read in a different machine, and I have even erased all the data on one and tried it on the server - still the same message.

What does this mean and how can I "unprotect" them?

Thanks in advance,

Hi

It sounds like Retrospect may not support the drive. What drive is it? It will show in the Retrospect configure->devices->environment window.

Thanks

Thanks for the response. The CD is supported. It is a TEAC CD-RW, Teac CD-W54E. I have recorded new CDs using it, just cannot reuse all the (not-so) old ones.
