The source and target disk are each 8TB NTFS volumes and do not indicate any errors. The disks are USB3 External Drives and are always on-line and backed up by an APC Smart-UPS 1000 battery and never see power failures. Also, when the original backups occur there are no errors. If I run the copy again, I will get the same errors (so it's consistent). These files were backed up weeks ago. I have come up empty-handed using Bing, Google and DuckDuckGo. Lennart_T Posted May 4, 2023 Report Share Posted May 4, 2023 "Chain broken" might indicate a problem with the source disk. A file consists of a chain of clusters (or sectors). rschreiber Posted May 14, 2023 Author Report Share Posted May 14, 2023 Well.... It seems that, magically, the verifies are now working correctly. I really don't understand why. The only thing that I can think of is that I rebooted by machine yesterday and now it's happy. I cannot prove or disprove that this fixed the issue, but I suspect that there was a "bad" copy of the software that does the verification. So, it would seem, the backups were actually OK and the verifier was wrong in reporting an issue. I don't like problem that just "go away." I am going to mark this as answered and let's just move on.
