Same Drive, Different Brand: Is it supported

Recommended Posts

So, in order to backup my system, and just skirt the problem I'm having with the Samsung 308B (see the "Samsung Status" posts,) I'm thinking of finding a cheap CD-RW. I did at Fry's, the BTC (www.btc.com.tw) BCE 2410IM. This drive is the same hardware and apparently same firmware as the Lite-On LTR 24102B.

I'm sure this is in an FAQ somewhere, but I could not find it. So my question is, if the BTC branded drive (which is not listed at a supported drive) uses the same hardware and firmware as the supported Lite-On drive, does it work with Retrospect?

Thanks for your time!

Melissa,

Thanks for the reply.

So since I'm still stuck, has their been any progress on the 308B problem. Is it still being actively investigated?

Or, is their a chance that the BCE drive will be supported in the near future?

Thanks,

Bob

Some users have reported problems with backing up to the Samsung 308b drive. During backup, Retrospect would report an error 105 (unexpected end of data).

Previously, we released the Retrospect Driver Update (3.0) to address this problem. For certain users, however, the RDU did not prevent this error.

We are pleased to announce the release of RDU 3.1, which fixes the error 105 during backup for the remainder of our Samsung customers.

Retrospect 6.0 and later users should not experience this problem.
